It is important to us that this remains the case in the long term, which is why we completely refrain from using artificial additives such as acrylates, pot preservatives, petroleum derivatives and synthetic dispersions. Our clay plasters consist of natural pit clay and sand and, depending on the type of plaster and intended use, are mixed with chopped straw or fine plant fibres. They are differentiated according to their composition, grain size, additives and mixing ratio.

With clay plaster, the standard counts

Über Jahrtausende hinweg war Lehm auch in unseren Breitengraden ein gängiger Baustoff. Die große Verfügbarkeit brachte ihm jedoch den Beigeschmack des Baustoffs für arme Leute ein. Das führte dazu, dass Lehm aus unserem Baugeschehen weitestgehend verschwand und eher ein Nischenprodukt war – wer wollte schon ein Material mit diesem Image verbauen? Doch seit 2013 gibt es DIN-Normen, die die Ansprüche an und die Berechenbarkeit von Lehmprodukten regeln. Unsere Lehmputze, genauso wie alle anderen conluto-Produkte, entsprechen diesen Normen. Für Ihre Sicherheit.

No one is born a master. But that doesn't matter, because clay forgives (almost) all mistakes. As our clay products contain no artificial ingredients, the
clay plaster retains its positive properties both during and after application. So you want to rework it? No problem: simply re-moisten the clay plaster and try again.
Keep trying until you are satisfied. And we promise: practice makes perfect, so there's no need to be alarmed.

conluto clay plaster:

perfect for indoors, suitable for outdoors

Among many other advantages, one of the special properties of our clay plaster is its ability to regulate heat and moisture levels. This makes it ideal for use indoors and in damp rooms such as bathrooms, kitchens and basements. Conluto clay plaster also shows its strengths on protected exterior walls. The only exceptions are surfaces that are exposed to heavy abrasion, rain or splashing water.

Drying
behaviour Clay plasters dry purely physically, which means that they release moisture into the ambient air and thereby achieve their strength. They can be made plastic and malleable again by adding water. This process allows them to be processed without time pressure and enables the clay to be reused without high energy consumption.

Positive indoor climate
Clay plaster is able to buffer fluctuations in indoor humidity (e.g. due to showering, cooking, heating) by temporarily storing and releasing water vapour. This material property is referred to as sorption capacity.

Electrostatic neutrality
conluto clay plasters are electrostatically neutral and therefore do not attract dust and dirt particles unnecessarily.

Absorption of odours and binding of pollutants.
The clay minerals contained in clay are able to bind foreign substances and pollutants. This is why it is often said that clay "purifies" the indoor air. This purifying effect is also used in healing practices (healing earth) and in wastewater treatment.

 

Moisture transport
Clay plasters have high capillary conductivity and low equilibrium moisture content. This enables rapid moisture transport, which protects the wood, especially in half-timbered buildings.

Easy to use
conluto clay plasters are easy and straightforward to work with. They are available in standard packaging and can be applied by hand or with plastering machines.

Conserving
resources Clay plaster is produced with low energy consumption. The extraction and refinement of clay plasters does not require the destruction of the landscape nor does it lead to air and water pollution.

No burning(*) of clay plasters
Unlike conventional plasters, clay does not set chemically, which means that clay plasters cannot burn due to water extraction. This means that burn barriers do not need to be applied. However, the wall surfaces should be pre-wetted by spraying them sparingly, as this binds dust to the surface and prolongs the workability.

*Burning is the term used to describe the strong absorption of mixing water by the substrate after the application of plaster, mortar or paint. In the case of highly absorbent or differently absorbent plaster substrates, the free, unbound water is extracted from the still moist plaster faster than it can bind.
