Internal insulation and renovation
Lightweight loam is a malleable, easily mouldable building material that is applied wet as internal insulation between an external wall and permanent formwork (i.e. formwork that remains on the building component). Internal insulation made of lightweight clay can be used wherever visible structures (e.g. exposed timber framing on historic buildings) are to be retained and external insulation is not desirable.

Good modelling properties of lightweight clay
However, for those who do not want to compromise on improving their quality of living, lightweight clay is a possible alternative to external insulation. Lightweight clay also has advantages wherever structural unevenness in existing external walls needs to be levelled out. For example, protrusions and recesses in the external walls, as well as deviations in the vertical or alignment, can be easily corrected. The beams of the stud frame, which often vary in thickness, can be easily accommodated in the facing shell. In addition, cavities, cracks and gaps are closed by the excellent mouldability of the building materials.
